Killjoy: Nurse Novacaine
Actual Identity: Elizabeth
Age: Approximately 21
Color: Bright Purple
Specialty: Medic
Backstory:
The Nurse was born with a much less exotic name, Elizabeth. Her last name has been lost in the sands of time, perhaps because she refuses to go by it. She was the only daughter of two scientists, who were also raising two sons. They gave no credit to any creative endeavors, seeing science as the only way into the future. They homeschooled their children in an attempt to instill this into them, and tried to shelter them from any worldly influences.
However, it wasn't enough.
The first blow to their family's structure came when her eldest brother chose to go to art school instead of pursuing a more "sensible" and "real" degree. He was allowed to keep in contact with the family, however his parents would not acknowledge that he was anything more than a friend of their two better children now.
The next blow came when their middle son decided to pursue music along with his brother. This was the last straw for their parents. Even though Elizabeth was extremely close to her brothers, at 8 years old they cut off contact with them, determined not to let the same thing happen to her.
They had been working on a secretive new project. The Pursuit of a Better Living was based on some crackpot "evidence" of the world ending in 2012. They were preparing for the apocalypse, and how to run the world after it. A scientist named Korse was creating a group of children, who were the smartest he could find, and was trying to run experiments on them. Unfortunately, in 2007 child experimentation was strictly frowned upon.
Elizabeth's parents thought this the perfect opportunity to prevent another one of their children wasting away their lives. They signed her over to Korse, and she became the first subject of the Indigo Indoctrination project. She became his protege, learning and developing along side of him.
In 2012, the apocalypse did not happen as predicted. Rather than let all their hard work go to waste, the newly formed BL/ind decided they would do it themselves. They had scientists in governments around the world. They used this pull to start a war. By November of 2012, the world was in flames as they had predicted. They put out the fires and, with mistrust in the government at an all time high, became the new leaders for all the world.
Elizabeth saw that other children were being brought in, a similar age to her. They looked terrified and sad, and she was confused. This life was hard, it was painful, but she'd been here so long it was normal to her. She didn't make many friends in there, being resented by the others at having better treatment. However, there was one friend she did gain.
The girl would let herself be known simply as Crash. She was older than most of the kids, captured as a runaway instead of taken from a school. She would actually talk to Liz, tell her stories of the outside world. And then, after two years, Crash dropped her own sort of bomb.
"I'm going tonight." She said. She explained she'd found a secure tunnel out of this wasteland. That wasn't her only shocker. "I'm going to meet with your brothers tonight." Elizabeth only stared. Never once had she mentioned having siblings to this girl, or even that she'd ever known anything than sitting in the blazing white confines of this prison.
The girl promised that she'd tell her brothers about her, even though she insisted they already knew. Elizabeth begged to go with her. After hearing about the true world, the world she'd been sheltered from by her parents or by BL/ind, she wanted to see hear and feel it for herself. But Crash said no. She told her that she would be able to find the tunnel when the time was right, but for now they needed her here.
The time came after another two years. When Liz was patrolling, she found the tunnel with a note scratched in. "It's time, Kid." Which was what Crash always called her. Elizabeth didn't hesitate. She didn't want to lose the tunnel. So she took off down it, leaving everytging at BL/ind behind.
